Nikon Photo Contest 2016-2017 announces full panel of judges

The global photo contest completes its line-up of judges with a diverse and creative group of individuals from across the world

SINGAPORE – Nikon Singapore Pte. Ltd. is pleased to share of the addition of Yao Wei Wei, Mattias Klum, Olivier Richon, Ori Kleiner, and Bharat Sikka, to complete a full panel of judges for the Nikon Photo Contest 2016-2017.

The five newly selected judges are a diverse and globally active group of individuals, including photographers, a cinematographer, and even college educators actively involved in nurturing the next generation of artists. With this announcement, the full panel of 10 judges for the Nikon Photo Contest 2016-2017, including Lead Judge Neville Brody and the other four judges — Marcus Bell, Wang Lei, Carol Guzy, and Miho Odaka — has been appointed.

Profiles of Judging Panel:

Yao Wei Wei
Yao Wei Wei is a photographer active primarily in the fields of fashion, wedding, and portrait photography. He also works as a Nikon Ambassador in China. He has received many Chinese and international awards, including the Golden Prize of Asian Pacific Wedding Portrait, China's Top 10 Best Portrait Award, and the Gold Prize in the Innovation Category of the Austrian Photo Exhibition. He also owns two portrait studios, MAYA and Shi Hua She.
Bharat Sikka
A fine art photographer, Bharat Sikka began his photographic career in India before earning a BFA in photography at the Parsons School of Design in New York City. He has held a number of exhibitions both in India and around the world, and has also contributed to prestigious international magazines and publications including the New York Times and Vogue.

Mattias Klum
Mattias Klum is a Swedish photographer, cinematographer and director. In an artistic way that is entirely his own, he describes and portrays animals, plants and other natural and cultural settings in the form of articles, books, films, lectures and exhibitions. Since 1997, Klum has produced multiple articles and 13 cover stories for National Geographic magazine. He has also produced 9 film projects and published 13 books to date. Klum has been awarded a gold medal for his important contributions as a wildlife photographer by the King of Sweden. He has also been named a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum, awarded an honorary Doctorate in Natural Sciences by Stockholm University, appointed Senior Fellow at the Stockholm Resilience Centre, Fellow at the National Geographic Society, and Goodwill Ambassador for IUCN and WWF.

Olivier Richon
Olivier Richon graduated from the Polytechnic of Central London (currently the University of Westminster) with a BA (Hons) in Film and Photographic Arts in 1980. Since then, his work has been exhibited internationally and can be seen in the collections of such museums and galleries as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris in France. In 2006, he became a Professor at the Royal College of Art, where he has been Head of the Photography program since 1997. In addition to his cultivation of up-and-coming photographers, Richon actively exhibits his own works, most recently at the Centre d'Art Contemporain in Lausanne, and the Materia Gallery in Rome.

Ori Kleiner
Ori Kleiner is a motion designer, filmmaker, and artist. He is the coordinator of Motion Graphics courses at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, contributing to the nurturing of the next generation. He worked at CBS, a major American commercial broadcast television network, on various programs, including “The Early Show” and “CBS Morning News”, and his documentary film, Recognized (2007), has been screened around the world.

Nikon Photo Contest, one of the world's largest international photo contests

Nikon Photo Contest (NPC) is one of the world's largest international photo contests. Held since 1969, the goal behind the contest is to provide an opportunity for photographers around the world to communicate and to enrich photographic culture for professionals and amateurs alike. A total of 21,100 photographers from 164 countries and regions submitted 88,737 works in the previous (35th) contest, marking a new record for the contest in terms of the number of countries and regions from which entries were submitted.
